On 1 October 2013 the revised Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR 2013) came into force.
Working with the company’s health & safety consultants HBXL have made the relevant changes to the HSE’s RIDDOR reporting update throughout the Health & Safety Xpert software – including all the individual documents and the user guide. Users of the software simply have to download the new version of Health & Safety Xpert to access the new information.
HBXL will continue to make sure users of the software stay on top of regulation changes in the future - including the significant CDM changes coming in 2014.
So what has changed?
RIDDOR is the law that requires employers, and other people in charge of work premises, to report and keep records of:
- work-related accidents which cause deaths
- work-related accidents which cause certain serious injuries (reportable injuries)
- diagnosed cases of certain industrial diseases; and
- certain ‘dangerous occurrences’ (incidents with the potential to cause harm)
The main changes are the simplification of the reporting requirements in the following areas:
- the classification of ‘major injuries’ to workers has been replaced with a shorter list of ‘specified injuries’
- the existing schedule detailing 47 types of industrial disease has been replaced with eight categories of reportable work-related illness
- fewer types of ‘dangerous occurrence’ now require reporting
There are no significant changes to the reporting requirements for:
- fatal accidents
- accidents to non-workers (members of the public)
- accidents which result in the incapacitation of a worker for more than seven days
Fortunately those wanting to keep on top of the latest changes in rules and regulations, turn to HBXL’s Health & Safety Xpert software. Encouraging a more active approach to health and safety it is already used by thousands of builders across the country.
Health & Safety Xpert simplifies the process of producing the right documents. Users just have to tell the software what they are building and the software presents the hazards, suggests control measures to put in place and produces the paperwork accordingly.
It saves builders huge amounts of time, quickly guiding them through the crucial paper work that’s required under current UK law, including the Health & Safety At Work Act 1974, Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations 2007, The Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) and provides Method Statements.
Joanna Mulgrew, Sales and Marketing Director at HBXL said: “All building firms have a duty of care to keep their employees and the public safe on site and non-compliance can attract massive fines as well as facing site shut down, criminal prosecutions and in some cases prison sentences if we were proved to be negligible.
“There’s no doubt that the level of documentation and attention to detail on all things related to health and safety has increased but it’s for a very good reason.
“Anyone working on any building site should look out for hazards and take time to control the risks as best they can. Health & Safety Xpert goes a long way to help manage such risks and help reduce the number of accidents.”
