Government move to reactivate derelict sites welcomed by build software specialists

Build firms are being advised to get themselves prepared following the announcement by the chancellor launching a major new housing offensive aimed at building 200,000 new homes on brownfield land across the UK.

The new initiative means local councils have to pre-approve planning permissions on 90 per cent of suitable brownfield land by 2020 allowing work to start on dozens of derelict sites across the country to help ease the housing shortage.

Experts at HBXL, the building software company, are now advising those looking to make the most of this latest plan to boost the house building sector to get themselves ready by utilising software tools specifically designed for them to prepare accurate estimates quickly and easily while maximise profits.

Joanna Mulgrew, marketing director at HBXL said: “The Chancellor has clearly recognised that a significant number of housing schemes are held up or completely derailed by  local opposition and is therefore keen to ensure as many derelict sites are given the green light as soon as possible in a bid to ease the nation’s housing crisis.

“We believe this robust approach should be broadly welcomed as it could help reduce demand on contested Green Belt land.

“What builders need to do is therefore get themselves right up to speed on the latest software solutions such as HBXL’s EstimatorXpress that have been designed to help them win more business and reduce significantly the time spent preparing estimates.”

Part of the Government’s announcement includes an initial £5m fund to help local authorities create the first 100 test sites. They also plan to consult on a range of further measures to enforce the initiative, including allowing developers to sidestep local councils and apply directly to central government to remove planning obstacles on brownfield sites.

Jo added: “Getting prepared now will pay dividends in the long term and is why those looking to the future need to get in touch.

“With the level of work to increase over the next few years, builders need to work smart. It’s pointless spending huge amounts of time preparing and producing estimates in the hope that they will bring in the business. The only way to become more competitive is to use this sort of estimating software.

“It not only speeds up the whole process but enables builders to produce quality quotes, which, more often than not, wins the work. Being able to demonstrate to the customer exactly where their money is being spent goes a long way to securing their trust and ultimately their business.

“It’s this use of IT that has makes some builders highly competitive in why they will do well in the future.”
