Stakes are high as HSE ups the ante on unannounced visits

Builders are being advised to ‘think health’ this summer as the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) embarks on its latest round of unannounced visits.

The warning comes from bosses at HBXL, the country’s leading developer of building software, who are advising site managers and construction firm managers to make sure their health and safety procedures are right up to speed.

During a concentrated drive throughout the summer, HSE construction inspectors are making unannounced visits focusing on ill health.

Aimed at stopping dangerous practice, the inspection initiative could result in a hefty fine for those found guilty and is why builders need to stay on top of all things relating to health and safety.

In particular the HSE will be looking at respiratory risks from dusts, exposure to other hazardous substances such as cement and lead paint, manual handling and noise and vibration.

But according to Joanna Mulgrew, marketing director at HBXL, any risk can be easily avoided by using the company’s Health & Safety Xpert software.

Providing all health and safety paperwork relevant to the job in hand at the click of a button, the latest version of the software is right up to speed on the latest rules and guidelines.

Developed in partnership with leading health and safety professionals, Health & Safety Xpert has encouraged a more active approach to health and safety for thousands of builders across the country.

It saves builders huge amounts of time, quickly guiding them through the crucial paper work that’s required under current UK law, including the Health & Safety At Work Act 1974 and Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations.

Joanna said: “All businesses have a duty of care to keep their employees and the public safe on site as well as legal requirements to undertake certain paperwork.

Non-compliance can attract massive fines as well as facing site shut down, criminal prosecutions and in some cases prison sentences if you are proved to be negligible. Firms can also be found guilty without there having been an actual accident.

“It would be reckless at best not to make the most of tools that have been specifically developed for the sector especially when you consider the consequences if found guilty of being non-compliant.

“What Health & Safety Xpert does is encourage a more active approach to health and safety. It also simplifies the process of producing the right documents. It will ensure you comply with the law and most importantly it helps provide protection to your employees.

“With HSE maintaining a high profile push on all things related to health and safety, using Health & Safety Xpert goes a long way to make sure you are up to date with the latest regulations.
