HBXL’s software developers are always on the lookout for new shortcuts – EstimatorXpress’ ever-growing list of helpful features just keep on coming!
Our latest EstimatorXpress software update will be here in the spring, and it’s full of improvements and new features to help make your estimating even easier.
Features include:
- Enhancements to preliminary workbooks including Daily Parking, Congestion Charge, Skip Permits…plus others
- Six new coping stone workbooks
- New ‘Downlighters’ calculator added to the ‘Internal Lighting’ workbook
- New Minor Refurbishments group of workbooks
- Adjustments to existing groups of workbooks
- Option to create your own custom tiling and brickwork ‘Mini Specs’
This last new feature – Mini Specs – will allow you to change certain aspects of your build specifications.

Customer preference or local building styles often affect the choice of facing bricks and roofing tiles that are used on your building projects. This can have a significant impact on the pricing and material scheduling of a new job.
So, we’ve set up Mini Specs for roofing to cover the most common variations:
- Plain tiles (typically small clays)
- Pan tiles (concrete interlocking, double roman etc.)
- Slate tiles
These variations can be customised or copied so you can create additional roofing Mini Specs of your own – for example, if you often work with slate tiles of a few different sizes, you’ll now be able to set up different slate roofing specs to deal with different sized slate tiles – along with the differing construction speeds to suit the tile size being used.
We’ve also introduced a Mini Spec for facing bricks – useful for selecting different priced facing bricks used on cavity brick and block walls.
EstimatorXpress includes hundreds of prices for standard facing bricks and reclaimed facing bricks. The reclaimed bricks, by default, have a higher wastage factor and a reduced construction speed.
Mini Specs can be used whilst estimating or amended if your customer changes their mind. They are great for comparing costs using different materials – and can be done in just a few clicks!
